Hari’s has been a fixture of London’s hair scene since 1976, known for its elegant salons, high standards of service, and creative clientele. The challenge was to create a soundtrack that reflected the brand’s rich heritage while appealing to the artistic tastes of its stylists. The founder was concerned that too many creative inputs might result in a disjointed and inconsistent sound across locations.
Altaura worked closely with Hari, the founder, to understand the brand’s evolution and energy. We developed a sonic identity that respected the brand’s legacy while feeling fresh and vibrant. Sample playlists were shared with the team for feedback before going live. To maintain quality and encourage staff engagement, we also introduced a monthly collaborative playlist where stylists could submit suggestions that are reviewed and added by our music team.
Blending Heritage with Creative Freedom
We shaped the sound to reflect the style, confidence, and cultural roots of the Hari’s brand, while leaving room for staff expression. The final playlists blend classics with emerging artists, creating a tone that feels timeless yet current. Stylists felt involved in the process, but the overarching sound remained consistent and on-brand.

With multiple salons, consistency was key. The curated approach allowed each space to feel connected while still maintaining individuality. The music enhances the in-salon experience and supports the natural rhythm of the day, energising mornings, and easing into a softer afternoon tone without feeling generic.

Staff Engagement Without the Chaos
By allowing stylists to contribute tracks in a structured way, we avoided the chaos of a free-for-all approach. The collaborative playlist system gave staff a sense of ownership while ensuring all additions were curated to fit the mood. This helped reinforce a sense of pride and community, both among the team and the clients they serve.
