Langan’s Brasserie, one of London’s most iconic restaurants, was preparing for a major relaunch. Known for its decadent energy in the 1970s and a guest list that included David Bowie, Elton John and The Beatles, the challenge was to revive that spirit while building something relevant for a new generation. The relaunch included a newly designed members club upstairs, where music would take centre stage. Both the restaurant and the club needed a fully considered music strategy, speaker placement planning, and a curated mix of live and recorded music that could capture the essence of the original while feeling unmistakably modern.
Altaura was brought in to lead the music direction from the ground up. We developed a comprehensive sound strategy across both floors, advised on speaker placements, curated launch performances, and built a long-term music programme that included live acts, DJs, and evolving playlists. Our approach brought together nostalgia, sophistication, and cultural relevance to create a seamless sonic identity for Langan’s.
Shaping the Musical Strategy from Day One
Our involvement began at the early design stages of the project. Working alongside the architects and interior designers, we defined the musical tone that would underpin both the brasserie and the upstairs club. We created distinct but connected sound identities for each space. The restaurant’s atmosphere was rooted in warmth and glamour, while the club’s identity was more intimate and expressive. Speaker placement was planned in detail to support these dynamics, ensuring the sound worked with the flow and feel of the interiors.

The Opening: A Statement of Intent
To relaunch Langan’s with impact, we curated and produced the opening night event. This included a line-up of DJs and live performers, with a headline set from Mark Ronson. The event captured wide media attention and successfully re-established Langan’s as a cultural force in the capital. The music set the tone for what the new era of Langan’s would sound like; timeless, bold, and unapologetically stylish.

Ongoing Live Music and DJ Management
Since launch, Altaura has managed all aspects of the live music and DJ programme. We book, brief, and schedule performers across both the restaurant and the members club, ensuring every set feels tailored to the mood and occasion. From soulful dinner sets to high-energy late nights, our team maintains quality and consistency while evolving the roster with new talent.

Curated Playlists for Every Moment
Alongside the live programme, we provide ongoing curation of all playlists throughout the week. These are designed to flow with the rhythm of service, from elegant lunchtime selections to atmospheric evening transitions. The music draws on rare 70s records, classic soul, modern edits and analogue textures, maintaining a nostalgic yet contemporary feel that honours the venue’s legacy.

Connecting the Club and the Brasserie
Though the restaurant and club serve different functions, the sound strategy unites them. The club’s music leans deeper into rare grooves, vinyl aesthetics and late-night energy, while the restaurant remains warm and iconic. The shared DNA ensures that guests moving between floors experience a sense of continuity, with music as the common thread connecting the two atmospheres.
