case study

Workspaces

problem

Workspace operates over 40 coworking locations across London, serving a wide mix of entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and service providers. However, music across their sites lacked consistency and failed to reflect the brand’s identity. Many locations relied on staff-managed radio or mismatched playlists, resulting in clashing volumes, off-brand selections, and atmospheres that felt either too casual or too intrusive. Without a cohesive strategy, the soundscape did not support productivity or connection, and staff found the setup difficult to manage. Customers often described the music as random, and it undermined Workspace’s ability to present itself as a professional, energised environment.

Solution

Altaura partnered with Workspace to design a unified, scalable music strategy that supported both brand identity and operational flow. After a thorough consultation and site analysis, we built a framework structured around five daily time segments: Early Morning, Mid Morning, Lunch, Afternoon, and Evening. Each segment was carefully curated to match customer behaviour and desired mood. We also introduced centralised system control and installed new audio equipment in over half of the buildings. This ensured sound delivery could be consistent across all locations, while remaining responsive to real-time needs.

01

Curated Energy Throughout the Day

The playlists were mapped to customer routines. Early mornings welcomed guests with mellow, soulful tones to ease into the day. Mid mornings shifted into brighter and more uplifting tracks to support focus and momentum. Lunchtimes provided balance, helping people switch off without losing energy. The afternoons reintroduced tempo with rhythm-led instrumentals to reignite productivity, before soft, atmospheric tracks rounded out the evenings with warmth and calm.

02

Tailored Systems for Each Space

New sound systems were installed in over 20 buildings, each designed to enhance the acoustic profile of its environment. Whether in a bright café or a quiet breakout space, the equipment and audio settings were matched to the scale and purpose of the room. The result was greater clarity, more consistency, and a noticeably improved sound experience for both staff and guests.

03

Smarter Controls and Simpler Management

To reduce staff frustration and human error, all systems were configured with centralised controls and automated scheduling. Teams could easily adjust volume or timing if needed, but the core playlist transitions were handled remotely. This removed the burden from onsite teams, while ensuring every space sounded as it should at every point in the day.

04

Sound That Supports Focus and Flow

Rather than acting as background noise, the music became a subtle tool for shaping energy and focus. Tracks were selected to minimise distraction, support deep work, and encourage light interaction in communal areas. The balance of instrumental and vocal content was carefully planned to match each space’s use, helping people feel both productive and comfortable.

05

An Audio Identity That Reflects the Brand

The new strategy gave Workspace a distinct and recognisable sonic identity. Staff and members reported a more cohesive experience, and the sound played a key role in reinforcing the values of professionalism, energy, and creativity. Instead of being an afterthought, music became part of the brand’s rhythm and helped support both daily operations and long-term customer loyalty.

Impact and results

Workspace now delivers a consistent and energising sound across all locations. Regular customer surveys show a noticeable increase in satisfaction with the front-of-house, café, and breakout spaces. Staff have reported fewer complaints and an easier system to manage. The new playlists have improved productivity, boosted morale, and helped create an experience that reflects the quality of the Workspace brand.
