Four Seasons George V

Altaura developed a bespoke music strategy for Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, translating its timeless elegance into a distinctive Parisian sound. Carefully defined music identities, tailored playlists and programming throughout the day connect the hotel’s restaurants, bar, public spaces and wellness areas, giving each its own character within a coherent guest experience.

Thibault Méquignon - Bar Manager

“At the George V, the cocktail is only part of the experience. Light, music and the rhythm of the evening all play a role. As the hours pass, the atmosphere evolves: the lighting dims, curtains open or close, the tempo shifts. Nothing is left to chance, yet nothing feels staged.”

‍

problem

Four Seasons Hotel George V brings together different expressions of luxury, from the grandeur of La Galerie to the intimacy of L’Orangerie and the social energy of Le Bar. Its music needed to reflect those differences while expressing the identity of the hotel as a whole. The challenge was to balance French heritage with contemporary taste, and quiet refinement with moments of celebration. A relaxed breakfast, an afternoon conversation and a late evening cocktail each called for a different atmosphere. The strategy needed to respond to those changing occasions while keeping music sympathetic to conversation, service and the character of each space.

Solution

Altaura created a music strategy built around Parisian character, effortless elegance and a natural progression of energy throughout the day. Our scope covered 19 music zones across dining, hospitality, wellness and events. We translated the hotel’s identity into clear musical guidelines for each setting, defining genres, energy levels, vocal presence and schedules. Classical music, jazz, French chanson, soul and contemporary electronic sounds provided a varied palette, with each venue given its own interpretation.

01

Capturing the character of George V

Our discovery findings established the qualities that should shape the hotel’s sound: timeless, refined, chic and distinctly Parisian. We considered how those qualities could serve an international audience visiting for dining, business, relaxation and special occasions. The strategy connected musical choices to the activities taking place in each space. Quiet morning meetings called for restraint, afternoon gatherings needed warmth, and evening venues required a gradual lift in energy. These everyday moments became the foundation for the curation.

02

A distinct voice for every dining room

For La Galerie, we designed a progression from gentle instrumental selections in the morning to brighter jazz, soul, swing and bossa as the day unfolds. The intention was to preserve its elegance while bringing warmth and movement to afternoon tea and evening aperitifs. At Le Cinq, the breakfast direction centred on classical music, supporting the grandeur and refinement of the setting. L’Orangerie called for a more delicate approach: ambient textures, contemporary classical music and instrumental jazz, developing through subtle changes in percussion and musical depth. Each direction responds to the venue’s character while sharing the hotel’s wider sense of sophistication.

03

Following the rhythm of the evening

Le Bar’s programming follows four stages, beginning with warm soul, lounge and funk before introducing more rhythmic disco, indie and house selections as the room becomes busier. A softer closing selection brings the evening down gradually. The progression is designed to support a lively atmosphere while leaving room for conversation. At Le George, French and Italian influences give the music a playful, welcoming identity. Mellow pop and indie selections establish the earlier mood, with disco, Italian groove and contemporary dance sounds adding energy for busier services. Separate weekday and weekend schedules allow the programming to reflect different dining rhythms.

04

From quiet retreat to celebration

The wellness direction distinguishes between arrival, exercise and treatment. Spa reception music introduces gentle rhythm through instrumental lounge and chilled selections, while the fitness soundtrack uses unobtrusive electronic beats to provide background momentum. For treatment rooms, we curated seven ambient collections spanning acoustic, classical, electronic and nature inspired sounds. These give the team options to suit different treatments and guest preferences. A separate event collection covers occasions from meetings and formal lunches to cocktail receptions, weddings and celebrations. Guidance on energy and vocal presence helps teams choose music appropriate to each gathering.

05

Keeping the identity fresh

The service model combines monthly bespoke curation for six principal music zones with curated channels for the wider wellness and event spaces. This gives the hotel a structure for refreshing its music while retaining the identity defined for each venue. Ongoing music management and technical support underpin the creative direction, connecting the strategy to the practical demands of a property with many different spaces and service moments.

Impact and results

The strategy establishes a clear musical framework across George V, bringing the hotel’s identity into the detail of each playlist and schedule. It gives every setting a defined role: calm and welcoming in the morning, warm and engaging through the afternoon, and increasingly vibrant in selected evening venues. The intended effect is a more connected guest journey, with music supporting both the intimacy of individual moments and the character of the wider property.
